Running the River: Secrets of the Sabine

Picture
"At 555 miles long, the Sabine is among the longest rivers in the nation but, more interesting and adding to its rich lore, is the fact that it flows through three of the continent's unique and colorful ecosystems:  the Blackland Prairies at the southern tip of the Great Plains, the Pineywoods of East Texas and Louisiana, and the Hardwood Bottoms and vast marshes along the Gulf Coast.  The word "sabine" means cypress in Spanish and anyone who has crossed the great river on Interstate 10 can see that is was aptly names.  The river not only flows through some of America's most beautiful terrain, it also forms the key artery of one of the most industrialized areas in the nation"

This is a short part of the forward to "Running the River: Secrets of the Sabine", a new novel by Wes Ferguson.  Running the River is a great story with a feature from local resident, Larry Karr!  Mr. Karr was interviewed and photographed along with several other residents along the "long brown snake of the river."

To purchase your copy of this entertaining book you can use the pay pal button below or call 337-825-0101.  The Merryville Museum also has supports books from local children's author Tommie Townsley and Mr. Curt Iles from the east side of Beauregard Parish.
